Marisa is the Founder and Managing Director of Meraki Capital. She is a structured financier with significant experience in banking and finance across Sub-Sahara Africa.
Marisa started her career as an Associate Attorney in the Commercial Litigation department of Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyer in Johannesburg. In 2004, she joined the M&A Tax structuring team of Deloitte, specialising in corporate reorganisations, BEE transactions and transaction structuring.
Whilst studying towards a MBA, Marisa formed part of the Special Projects team of the South African Revenue Service which focused on the tax implications of private equity and BEE transactions. Her dissertation which explored the relationship between entrepreneurship and empowerment in South Africa speaks to her passion for entrepreneurial growth on the African continent.
In 2007, Marisa joined the Structured Finance team of Standard Bank of South Africa. She was responsible for preference share transactions and new product development emerging markets.
In fulfilling her wish to focus on the African continent, Marisa joined AfrAsia Corporate Finance during 2013 and was appointed Managing Director of AfrAsia Corporate Finance during 2015. During this time, she advised and secured funds for corporate clients in the financial services sector, property sector and a number of diversified holding groups across Sub- Saharan Africa.
Marisa is an admitted Attorney and Notary Public of the High Court of South Africa. She holds a BCom (Law), LLB, LLM, MBA, HDIP Tax, HDIP Tax (International).
Marisa was awarded the Women Leadership Award by the African Leadership Forum in December 2015.
